The Histomap by John Sparks
The Histomap of World History is impressive to behold at over five-foot tall. Published by Rand McNally, the Histomap traces 4000-years of world history. This colorful chart attempts to show the relative power of a civilization by changing its width as it flows downward. With the passage of time, it is interesting to compare empires as they rise and fall. Somewhat out-of-date, the original version was done in 1931. The chart has remained mostly unchanged since that time.
